Life

bedraggled, uncombed.
a mind entombed
in familiar desperation
of the hungry and alone

she sleeps in the cold
with no one to hold
and walks the street
with broken feet

she looked at me
with eyes that do not see
and smiled at the sound
of a coin dropping in the can
